Pension Law

Our team of pension attorneys is general counsel to several public pension and retirement benefit funds. In this capacity, we routinely deal with the intricate legal issues that affect governmental retirement funds, such as those highlighted below.

Operational Matters
  • Assist in the proper conduct of board of trustee and committee meetings, including parliamentary matters (Robert's Rules of Order)
  • Prepare formal policies and procedures Consult on open meetings and open records requests
  • Assist with qualified domestic relations orders (QDROs)
  • Monitor federal and state legislation affecting government plans
  • Prepare and negotiate agreements with investment managers, investment advisors and custodial banks
  • Render legal advice with respect to trustee and executive officer fiduciary obligations
Pension Plans
  • Pension and benefit plan drafting, amendment and interpretation
  • Represent clients in all phases of the governing statute/plan approval process at the city and state level
  • Coordinate IRS plan qualification and related federal law compliance
  • Assist with questions about benefits for retirees and other plan beneficiaries
